The Supreme Court on Friday asked the government to clarify whether the use of crypto currencies in India is legal or not. It was hearing a matter relating to Bitcoin scam. A Bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Surya Kant told additional solicitor general Aishwarya Bhati: "You have to make your stand clear."
The top court was hearing a case relating to GainBitcoin scam involving 80,000 Bitcoins worth Rs 20,000
crore.
The SC poser came during ne hearing on a petition seeking bail for Jay Bhardwa), a co-accused in the case.
Tax men swoop down on key Shiv Sena corporator
The Income Tax department on Friday began conducting searches on premises linked to Shiv Sena corporator and the chairman of the standing committee of the BMC Yashwant Jadhav. Jadhav's wife Yamini is a Shiv-Sena MLA. The move is considered to be politically significant, since the BMC elections are due in April, this year. According to agency sources, the search operations began early morning on Friday at Mazgaon and the I-T officials were accom panied by the CRPF officials to provide them protection.
