Mumbai : mumbai witnessed a massive surge in covid -19 casses, detecting 2,510 new confirmed casses of infection on wednesday. The city reported one covid - related death and 251 recoveries but the positivity rate seems to be rising.
Mumbai has recorded 33 new case of omicron. Out of the total, 19 omicron positive patients do not travell history. According to BirhanmumbaI municipal corporation (BMC), 51,843 tests were done in a day. Out of 2,510 casses mumbai's D ward reported 294 casses, the higest in all administrative wards. The ward has plush areas like malabar hill and napeansea road, has the higest active casses in tje city at 294 on tuesday, mumbai had reported 1377 casses. Environment minisyer aditya thackeray was warned establishments of strict action if covid protocol not followed on new year's Eve. "People come out inlarge numbers on new year's Eve. We dont want to spoil their mood. But if establishments dont follow rule of 50 % or 25% capacity we will act strongly against them. Our flying squads will monitor gatherings and use cctv footage establish irregulatrious.
Establishments will be sealed if they are not following norms and they will be sealed for many months." In D ward BMC officials said that cases are rising for the last 4-5 days. Five buildings have been sealed on Wednesday due to a rise in cases. An official said that B wing of Embassy Apartment and A wing of Darya Mahal in Napeansea Road are among buildings that have been sealed. Embassy Apartment has reported 13 cases in the last two days out of which 11 cases are reported from B wing and the rest from A wing. "Buildings are being sealed to stop the spread of the virus. On Tuesday, 5 people had tested positive in Embassy Apartment after which carried out tests in the entire building and 8 more people tested positive. Out of 13 people, one person had travel history others had come in come in contact with people having travel history at various gatherings," said a civic official. Health department officials said that though the cases are rising patients don't have severe symptoms and few of them are being hospitalised. In the D ward of area of Mumbai, a total of 354 Covid cases were reported in the last week. Out of which 14 people were hospitslosed that too as a precautionary measure. But at the same time, there are concerns for the civic body as out of 354 patients who tested positive, around 75 per cent of the patients were vaccinated.
