The third wave of Covid-19 appears to have lost its grip over Mumbai and Maharashtra. In Mumbai, which has been witnessing a steady decline in cases over the last two weeks, the daily cases saw a drop from 536 cases on Sunday to 356 on Monday, 949 patients were discharged from Mumbai hospitals. The total active cases in the city also de clined from 5,743 on Sunday to 5,139 cases on Monday. On Monday, the doubling rate in Mumbai was 760 days, which has increased by 30 days as compared to Sunday, when it was 730. Compared to three deaths on Sunday, five deaths were reported on Monday. The recovery rate of Mumbai has increased by one per cent and reached 98 per cent on Monday. The data released by the BMC showed that 40 new patients were admitted to hospitals on Monday, taking the progressive hospitalisation number to 1,407. Out of these, only 10 were put on oxygen beds, taking the number of patients on oxygen beds to 618. Out of 37,116 available beds in Mumbai, only 3.8 per centor 1,407 are currently occupied. The data also shows there are zero containment zones,

and only one building remains sealed after positive cases were found; 29,863 tests were carried out by the corporation on Monday.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said, “Covid cases are declining rapidly, but we have to be cautious.” Dr Mangala Gomare, the executive health officer of the BMC said, "The downtrend of Covid cases has started; they are falling at the same pace they had increased during the third wave. We need to observe numbers till Wednesday; it may slightly rise. The vaccination helped reduce infection and cases have gone down after reaching the peak."

Maharashtra also witnessed a sharp drop in daily cases from 9,666 cases on Sunday to 6,436 on Monday. On Sunday, 66 people had died, which dropped to 24 on Monday 18,423 patients have been discharged on Monday compared to 25,175 patients discharged in the state on Sunday.
