MUMBAI: After recording around 20,000 new covid casses for four days in a row , mumbai witnessed a fall on monday at 13,648, thanks mainly due to the fewer tests conducted in the city on sunday. Experts on senior officials of the Brihanmumbai municipal corporation (BMC) said that tje ongoing week will play a key role in determining the further course of action.

      In the past 24 hours, 59,242 tests were conducted against an average of 70,000 tests earlier last week. The test positivity rate (TPR) fell by 1% as monday recorded 23.03 % TPR.five deaths were reported on monday takin the toll to 16.411.

       Suresh kakani, additional municipal commissioner, said that with nearly 60,000 test conducted in the last 24 hours, the covid graph has started to show a downward trend. "But we are not getting carried away because we need to be sure whether this trend is just a one day phenomenon or the numbers have seriously started to decline" said kakani

Peak by end if jan or IST week of feb:Tope

Mumbai: state public health minister Rajes tipe said that the third wave may peak by january end or the firat week of february before beginning to taper.

     The daily covid positivity numbers dropped to 33,470 on monday, compared to 44,388 on sunday. This was mostly due to reduced testing on sunday. Mumbai led the tally with 13,648 cassrs, and of the eight deaths reported in the state, the city accounted for five.

      After a two hour meeting with mansukh mandaviya, the union minister for health and family welfare, Tope addressed the media and sought to allay fear over the virus. He added that of the people testing positive, only very few needed oxygen support or intensive care off those testing positive, around 85% were asymPtomatic.  He added that the home quarantine period had been reduced to seven days. Tope also said that the number of active covid casses in maharashtra was1.73 lakh. Of these, just 1.711 (1%) were in the ICU, and 5,400 (2%) were on oxygen support    

       "We told the minister that there is no huge stress on infrastructure ," said tope, adding that the state had been asked to focus on testing, tracking treatment covid-approprate behaviour and vaccination.
