The Powai police have arrested two men who held people at knifepoint and made them wire money on an e-payment platform. In separate cases last month, two IIT Bombay students were duped by the accused, the police suspect. The arrested men have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for robbery and common intention charges. On January 29, a 26-yearold IIT Bombay student was waiting for his friends behind Hotel Renaissance in Powai when he was approached by two men. They held him at knifepoint and robbed him of 3700 in cash and made him wire 5,000 on GooglePay. He immediately approached the Powai police and lodged a complaint, acting on which a case was reg. istered and a probe was initiated. 

      Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 10) Maheshwar Reddy said that teams swung into action and investigated the GooglePay number where the money was wired. After a preliminary probe, the number was traced to one Ayush Rajbhar, 19, in the NITIE area, following which he was questioned and he confessed to the crime. The accused also led the po- lice to his accomplice, Satish Yadav, 21, who was arrested from the same locality. The police also recovered the knife and the robbed amount

DCP Reddy said that after details of the incident spread across the IIT Bombay campus, another student approached the Powai police and said he, too, was duped to the tune of 218,500, of which *18,000 was taken from GPay on the evening of January 26. Subsequently the arrested duo was booked in a separate case at Powai.

Dombivali man booked for stabbing wife

The Vishnu Nagar police in Dombivli have registered an attempt to murder case against a man for assaulting his wife. The police said the accused stabbed his wife as she was not ready to stay with him as he was jobless.

    The police said complainant Sagar Bhujang, son of accused Shivaji Kesavrao Bhujan 43 told police that his father was jobless and therefore, his mother Asha, 40, was not staying with him. "This led to regular fights between his parents. On February 7,Shivaji reached Dombivli and after a an argument with Asha, attacked Asha with a knife on her stomach and back, injuring her seriously She was rushed to civil hospital and is undergoing treat ment," said a police officer.
